Counseling & Student Services

Hello Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you.  I am ICEF Innovation Los Angeles Charter School’s full-time school counselor.

My involvement with the students takes place in several ways.  One function of a school counselor is to implement whole-school prevention programs, such as, bully prevention education, character education through Second Step, drug and alcohol awareness, and Mindfulness and Wellness education.  These lessons generally take place with the entire class or during school assemblies.

Another function of the counselor is to facilitate student groups.  Groups usually consist of 3-7 students that meet with the counselor weekly.  Each group is usually focused on one topic, such as, grief, social skills, friendship or coping with family changes.   Focus groups will be developed according to the needs of the students. Our most popular groups are the “lunch bunch” or “friendship groups”.  These groups are great for any student, including, students that have difficulty making friends, those that enjoy small groups, children that can serve as role models, and new students.  In these groups we play games and work on important social skills, such as, taking turns, active listening, communication, and assertiveness.

One of my new functions is serving students, families, and staff in our brand new Wellness center. I hold daily breathing and stretching sessions that take place in the Wellness Center. You can contact the main office to get a copy of the schedule. I welcome anyone who wants to Embrace the Mind!

All students have the opportunity to meet with me, or one of our counselors from the South Central Training Consortium, as needed.  Students are instructed to notify me, one of our SSTC counselors, their parent, their teacher or another staff member, and I will schedule a meeting with them during their non-instructional time.  In addition, I also meet individually with students whom would benefit from (weekly/ bi-weekly) counseling.

Lastly, I am available to meet with parents. I regularly attend IEP meetings. I also attend SST meetings and parent-teacher conferences if requested.  As needed, I can meet with parents individually to discuss specific concerns or to serve as a liaison for families needing community resources.

Please feel free to contact me at (323) 290-6997 or if you have any questions or concerns.
